PROJECT OK LOFT IMPLEMENTATION
Introduction
We were faced with two tasks at the project implementation stage. Firstly, we were to implement the project as close to the original concept as possible. Secondly, in selecting materials, furniture and other items, we were to be focusing, first and foremost, on quality.
Finishing
We wanted our project not to look like a newly finished interior design. That is why we paid special attention to selecting the finishing materials. The parquet is made up of four different-colored parquet flooring types. Some of the boards have been intentionally weathered. The project utilizes several kinds of decorative plaster. The plaster in the kitchen and in the bedroom imitates concrete; the one featuring on the columns in the sitting room – rusty metal. The kitchen features handmade tile manufactured according to our sketches.
Furniture
In selecting the furniture, light fixtures and décor our strategy was like this. Each room had some major pieces in it which were really lavish. The living room, for example, features a modular sofa by an Italian brand Minotti and Barcelona Design monkey side tables. The kitchen set by a German brand Nolte was chosen for its quality and reliability. The owners of the apartment love hookah smoking that is why all countertops are heat-resistant. The study features a BoConcept Danish designer arm-chair. The main lighting by TSENTRSVET is matched by Italian Flos and Axo Light light fixtures. The cost estimate was adjusted at the expense of the minor pieces of the interior design.
Challenges
On the whole, the project implementation was completed as scheduled. However, some challenging moments still arose. We had not prepared any initial light management option, which is why we had to test the equipment first. It took very long to finish the bathroom. A simple-looking partition behind the sinks has a really complex structure. In spite of it being small in size we needed to fit the utility lines and the sliding door frame into it. The project features a lot of unorthodox interior pieces, so many of them had to be delivered from Europe over a long period of time. That is why the logistics of the project was complicated.
Result
Ok loft is by far not the easiest of our projects. Despite of it being seemingly simple, it embodies lots of bold designer solutions and structural challenges. The designers, builders’ team and the outsourced contractors all worked smoothly to implement the project at an adequate level. That is why it is one of the projects which we are particularly proud of.
